How to Study Well: A Simple Guide for School Students (Classes 1–9)
By StudyZone Editorial TeamLast updated 4 min read
- Start studying in 4 easy steps
- Set a small goal for every day
- Revise in a way that helps you remember
- Use the planner, Focus Mode and your class notes
Quick answer
Study a little every day, not a lot on one day. Pick one small task, sit in a quiet place, and study with Focus Mode for 15 to 25 minutes. Then close your book and say or write what you remember. Plan your tasks in the Study Planner, set a daily goal, and watch your streak grow. Your class notes come from your own school or coaching on StudyZone.
How do I start studying?
Starting is the hardest part. These four steps make it easy:
- 1Find a quiet place. A table, good light, and your phone away from you.
- 2Pick one small task. For example, "Learn 10 spellings" or "Do 5 maths sums". One task at a time is enough.
- 3Start a Focus session. Open Focus Mode, write your task, and choose 15 or 25 minutes.
- 4Take a short break. When the timer ends, stand up, drink water, and rest for 5 minutes.
Tip: Younger students (Classes 1 to 5) can start with 10 to 15 minutes. Classes 6 to 9 can try 25 minutes.
How do I set a learning goal?
A goal tells you how much to study. Small goals are easier to keep, and keeping them every day builds a habit.
- Daily goal: on your dashboard, press Set my goals and enter how many minutes you want to study each day, for example 30 minutes.
- Weekly goal: add a weekly goal too, for example 180 minutes. The rings on your dashboard fill up as you study.
- Today's plan: add your homework and revision tasks in the Study Planner, so you know what to do next.
Only finished study counts toward your goals: tasks you tick as done and Focus sessions that reach zero. Planned time does not count until you do it.
How do I revise what I learned?
Revising means going over a lesson again so you remember it. Reading the same page many times is not the best way. Try these instead:
- Say it out loud. Close your book and explain the lesson to yourself, a parent or a friend.
- Ask yourself questions. Cover the answers and test yourself. Check what you got wrong.
- Make a small note. Write the 3 or 4 most important points on one page, in your own words.
- Revise again later. Look at the lesson again the next day, and again after a week.
Tip: Classes 6 to 9 can learn more ways to make good notes in How to make study notes.

How do I keep my study streak?
Your streak is the number of days in a row you studied. Finish at least one Focus session or one planner task every day to keep it going.
- Study at the same time every day, for example right after school.
- On a busy day, a short 10-minute session still keeps your streak.
- If you miss a day, do not worry. Start a new streak the next day.
